Be A Pineapple!

Be a Pineapple:
Stand tall,
Wear a crown,
and
Be sweet on the inside!

How cute is that saying!?!
Maybe I live under a rock or something... but up until a few months ago,  I had never heard of that quote. I walked into my friend Kailey's room and out of the corner of my eye, I caught the sentence: Be a pineapple on her whiteboard. Really? I thought... Be prickly and yellow??? Needless to say, I kept reading and instantly smiled. If it wasn't for that moment, I probably would have looked right over the pineapple stamp, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to make my own reminder to be a pineapple!

So I have to admit that I went a little detailed crazy with my pineapple... Okay okay, fine... extremely detailed crazy. You see... EACH leaf and EACH scale was cut out, sponge daubed and glued back down.

To start, I stamped the bottom of the pineapple onto Soft Suede cardstock with Soft Suede ink and cut the bottom out as a whole. Then I stamped a second pineapple bottom, onto Whisper White cardstock with Crushed Curry ink. From that pineapple, I cut out each individual scale, sponge daubed it and glued it in it's matching spot on the Soft Suede Pineapple cut out.

For the Sponge daubing, I sponge daubed around each scale, first with Crushed Curry ink and then with Old Olive ink. I sponged them so they would each have... a kind of gradation of colour. The center: being the stamped Crush Curry, the middle being the sponged Crushed Curry, which is a little darker because of the overlap of ink and then the Old Olive. Gluing the scales onto the Soft Suede pineapple gives it that further gradation. It also adds to the dimension of the pineapple giving it the look of deeper, darker grooves.

For the leafs, I did the same thing. I stamped the first one onto Old Olive cardstock with Old Olive ink and cut it out as a whole. The second one, I stamped onto Whisper White cardstock with Old Olive ink. Each individual leaf was cut and sponged daubed with Old Olive first and then Always Artichoke. Each leaf was then glued to it's matching spot on the Old Olive cut out.

For the saying I used the Labeler Alphabet (Love it!). I stamped my letters onto Whisper White cardstock with Basic Black ink and cut them out. The frame I used is sort of like a shadow box. It has a spacer insert between the back of the frame and the mat. So instead of gluing the letters directly on top of my pineapple (and risk messing everything up... you know what I mean!), I glued my letters onto a piece of acetate and place the acetate under the mat and before the spacer. So my saying is actually hovering above the pineapple and not directly on it. I really like how it turned out.

Well... that's it for today! Thanks for dropping in! Have a great day, happy creating and don't forget to be a pineapple!
